Mitt Romney 'genuinely cares'

Wednesday, October 24, 2012 - 10:09 YouTube/Screenshot This ad from Crossroads GPS features Iraq War veteran Peter Damon veteran benefited from Romney's help. Mitt Romney hasn't talked much about his charitable work in public, and with outside spending focused on attack ads, even Republicans have been concerned that the GOP presidential nominee appears too aloof. Two new ads from outside spenders are hoping to change that. “ Genuinely Cares ” from the pro-Romney super PAC  Restore Our Future  and “ Mitt and David ” from the conservative nonprofit  Crossroads GPS  tell the stories of two individuals who received support from Romney. They are a sharp departure from both groups’ standard attack ads. Restore Our Future has spent a little more than $99 million thus far this election, with 86 percent going toward negative advertising and other campaign materials. “Genuinely Cares” features Army National Guard Sgt. Peter Damon, an Iraq War veteran, telling about how Gov. Romney ...

Pro-Obama super PAC outpaces GOP counterpart

Monday, October 22, 2012 - 10:28 Justin Sullivan/Getty Images Pro-Mitt Romney super PAC Restore Our Future doubled its monthly hall but was outraised by its pro-Obama counterpart Priorities USA Action for the second month in a row. Restore Our Future , a super PAC supporting Mitt Romney’s candidacy, doubled its fundraising total in September. It took in  $14.8 million , but was still outraised by the pro-President Barack Obama  Priorities USA Action , which raised $15.3 million for the month. The totals show a reversal of a trend — Republicans to date have fared better at raising money for outside groups, though Romney still has American Crossroads, a well-funded super PAC, and Crossroads GPS, a nonprofit, in his corner. Restore Our Future brought in $7 million in August. Most of the major super PACs had until Saturday at midnight to file monthly reports with the Federal Election Commission on September’s fundraising activities. Meanwhile, J. Joe Ricketts, whose conservative  Ending ...

Let the debate spin begin

Thursday, October 4, 2012 - 10:08 YouTube/Screenshot Big Bird gets crushed by an anvil at the end of the new web video from liberal super PAC American Bridge 21st Century. The super PAC was one of the first outside spenders to put together a debate response. Within hours of the close of the first presidential debate Wednesday night, the liberal super PAC  American Bridge 21st Century  and the Republican National Committee fired off spin reports. The RNC’s “ Smirk ” shows clips edited together of GOP nominee Mitt Romney criticizing President Barack Obama on the deficit, middle class income, health care and other issues while the camera zooms in on Obama looking down at his notes with his lips pursed and the corners of his mouth slightly turned up. Obama was accused of smugness during a 2008 debate against his then-opponent, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and the Romney team alluded to  The New York Times  last week that Romney’s strategy included “luring the president ...

Republicans appear to be getting closer to picking up the U.S. Senate seat in Nebraska even as liberal super PAC  End the Gridlock  spends  more than   $534,000  opposing the GOP candidate, state Sen. Deb Fischer. Fischer faces former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey in the race to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson in the Republican-leaning state. Ad hits Obama on child soliders

Thursday, September 20, 2012 - 09:21 YouTube/Screenshot The conservative nonprofit Let Freedom Ring attacks Obama for allowing countries that use child soldiers to receive American military aid. Conservative nonprofit  Let Freedom Ring  attempts to link President Barack Obama to child soldiers in a new ad focusing on the United States’ military aid to certain countries in Africa and the Middle East. The  ad  opens with brief background on child soldiers and notes that Sen. Obama supported a bill that restricted American aid to countries that use child soldiers in militaries and state-backed militias. “This was the right thing to do. It’s what leaders do,” the narrator says. “But then, as president, Obama waived these restrictions, allowing millions of our taxpayer dollars to go to countries where children as young as 11 — 11! — are forced to fight.” “Why, Mr. President? Why?” the ad finishes. In 2011, Obama waived restrictions on military aid to countries that the ...
