Dems looking to pick up Chicagoland seats
Wednesday, October 10, 2012 - 09:28 YouTube/Screenshot This ad from House Majority PAC and SEIU COPE shows Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill., yelling during a public appearance. Redistricting in the Chicago metro area has endangered Republicans who hold House seats in the already Democrat-dominated region and attracted some major spending by a labor union and a liberal super PAC. Republican Reps. Joe Walsh, Bob Dold and Judy Biggert are targeted in a new ad from House Majority PAC and SEIU COPE , the political action committee of the Service Employees International Union, as part of a $2.4 million campaign in the region. The ad shows what appears to be an angry tirade from Walsh and a list of housing and health care votes House Majority PAC calls “extreme.” Walsh is running in the redrawn 8th District and faces the well-liked Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth. Duckworth has the backing of the Now or Never super PAC, which has spent $1.8 million supporting her, according to the Center ...

Misleading ad attacks Obama on Libya
Tuesday, October 2, 2012 - 09:21 YouTube/Screenshot Obama appeared on "The View" at the same time Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was speaking at the Untied Nations, a new ad from American Crossroads points out. The American delegation boycotted Ahmadinejad's speech due to his strident anti-Israel position. Conservative super PAC American Crossroads released “ World ,” a misleading attack on President Barack Obama’s actions on the day U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens was killed in Libya. The video opens with the sound of sirens and crackling fires as shots of protests and burning buildings are shown. A newscaster reads a statement from the White House confirming that the Obama administration considers the killing of the ambassador to Libya and three other Americans to be a terrorist attack. On that day, the narrator says, Obama “campaigned in Las Vegas.” Obama was not in Las Vegas campaigning on Sept. 11, the day of the attack. Both he and Romney refrained from ...

Veterans groups jump into U.S. Senate race in Arizona
Thursday, September 27, 2012 - 10:11 YouTube/Screenshot VoteVets and Majority PAC released "Uniform," which builds on a new line of attack against Rep. Jeff Flake, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Arizona - that he does not support veterans. A new ad from a veterans’ outside spending group and a major Democratic super PAC accuses Arizona Republican Rep. Jeff Flake of failing to support members of the armed services. “Congressman Flake voted to send us to that war,” says Steven Lopez, an Iraq war veteran, in the new ad, “and then voted against us when we returned home.” Flake and former Surgeon General Richard Carmona, a Democrat, are facing off to replace retiring Republican Sen. John Kyl in an increasingly competitive race. “ Uniform ” from VoteVets Action Fund , a nonprofit, and Majority PAC draws attention to Flake’s vote against the 2008 GI Bill, which expanded benefits to Iraq war veterans. The bill, now law, provides tuition to public universities for ...

North Dakota Senate race tightens
Tuesday, September 25, 2012 - 10:19 YouTube/Screenshot The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee's new ad claims Rep. Rick Berg isn't telling the truth about the effects of a "premium support" Medicare system on those who are already enrolled. Republican Rep. Rick Berg of North Dakota, once the favorite to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad, has found himself in a tight race, and spending by outside groups is flowing. Berg faces former state Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat. The Republican congressman absorbs a one-two punch today in ads from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Patriot Majority USA . Patriot Majority USA, a liberal nonprofit, released “ More Proof ,” which features the AARP’s criticisms of the Medicare plan Berg supports — Rep. Paul Ryan’s “premium support” plan in which the government gives seniors a set amount of money to buy private insurance. The DSCC’s “ No Change ” also focuses on Medicare. It says ...

Crossroads GPS charges into House race
Wednesday, September 19, 2012 - 10:19 YouTube/Screenshot With this ad targeting Rep. Tim Bishop, D-N.Y., Crossroads GPS is now active at all levels of the national election. Crossroads GPS , a conservative nonprofit outside spending group, began a $2.3 million ad campaign Wednesday, including the Crossroads network’s first reported foray into congressional races and ads in four tightly contested Senate races. With its entry into the House race, Crossroads is now active at all levels of the national election. This campaign is part of a larger $10 million-plus offensive from Republican strategist Karl Rove’s Crossroads network that began this week. Super PAC American Crossroads just announced an $8.8 million campaign targeting President Barack Obama. Crossroads GPS’ ads target Senate races in Montana, Nevada, North Dakota and Wisconsin as well as New York’s 1st Congressional District, where Republicans are trying to oust Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop: “ Number One ” opposes ...
