The "spring break" president?
Wednesday, October 17, 2012 - 09:30 YouTube/Screenshot Obama is accused of spending too much time on frivolous activities in a new attack ad from a tea party group. “It’s time to put the adults back in charge,” says the narrator of a new attack ad from a conservative political action committee. “Sometimes Barack Obama seems to confuse being president with being on spring break,” he continues. “It’s time to retire the beer-summit, spring-break presidency.” The Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama released this new advertisement just after the end second presidential debate Tuesday night, which saw Obama continue his campaign’s theme of painting GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney as out-of-touch and elitist. The ad takes the out-of-touch theme and turns it against Obama. The PAC’s ad notes that Obama has played more than 100 rounds of golf during his tenure. It also features clips of his “slow jamming the news” on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and other ...

Unions triple-team Allen in Virginia
Thursday, October 11, 2012 - 09:36 YouTube/Screenshot SEIU, AFSCME and the National Education Association teamed up to produce this ad opposing U.S. Senate candidate George Allen, a Republican. Three labor unions have teamed up to try to thwart the election prospects of former Sen. George Allen, the Republican running for U.S. Senate in Virginia. The political action committees of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the Service Employees International Union and the National Education Association launched “ Better ” on Wednesday, attacking Allen on Medicare and women’s health. “That’s George Allen,” the narrators say. “Cuts Medicare. Reduces care for women. More power for insurance companies.” Allen supports vice presidential nominee and Republican Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget, which proposes a voucher-type system for Medicare that Democrats argue would result in deep cuts. When speaking of women’s health, the ad refers to Allen’s support of ...

Post-Citizens United spending favors Romney
Wednesday, October 10, 2012 - 15:21 CPI / Marketplace Since Labor Day, the once unofficial start of the election season, 70 percent of outside spending on the presidential race made possible by the Citizens United court decision has benefited Mitt Romney, according to a Center for Public Integrity analysis. More than $106 million of the $117 million spent on the Obama-Romney matchup since Sept. 3 has been on negative ads, with President Barack Obama absorbing more than $80 million in attacks, according to the analysis of Federal Election Commission data. By way of comparison, the Obama campaign has spent $346 million over the entire election and Romney has spent $288 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics . American Crossroads, a conservative super PAC co-founded by Republican strategist Karl Rove, is the top anti-Obama spender as well as the top overall spender among outside groups in the presidential election. Priorities USA Action, a pro-Obama super PAC, is the second-biggest ...

Nebraska Senate race targeted by Democratic super PAC
Wednesday, October 3, 2012 - 09:43 YouTube/Screenshot The super PAC End the Gridlock, responsible for this ad, has spent entirely in opposition to Deb Fischer, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Nebraska. Republicans appear to be getting closer to picking up the U.S. Senate seat in Nebraska even as liberal super PAC End the Gridlock spends more than $534,000 opposing the GOP candidate, state Sen. Deb Fischer. Fischer faces former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey in the race to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson in the Republican-leaning state. End the Gridlock was established in April in Washington, D.C., and has spent entirely in opposition to Fischer. Nonetheless, End the Gridlock’s website says it plans to focus on “high-impact races” and names only Nebraska as such a race. Its most recent quarterly filing shows the super PAC took in $229,000 through the end of June. The top donor , Hollywood producer Sidney Kimmel, gave $100,000. Kimmel earned his ...
