Pro-Obama super PAC outpaces GOP counterpart
Monday, October 22, 2012 - 10:28 Justin Sullivan/Getty Images Pro-Mitt Romney super PAC Restore Our Future doubled its monthly hall but was outraised by its pro-Obama counterpart Priorities USA Action for the second month in a row. Restore Our Future , a super PAC supporting Mitt Romney’s candidacy, doubled its fundraising total in September. It took in $14.8 million , but was still outraised by the pro-President Barack Obama Priorities USA Action , which raised $15.3 million for the month. The totals show a reversal of a trend — Republicans to date have fared better at raising money for outside groups, though Romney still has American Crossroads, a well-funded super PAC, and Crossroads GPS, a nonprofit, in his corner. Restore Our Future brought in $7 million in August. Most of the major super PACs had until Saturday at midnight to file monthly reports with the Federal Election Commission on September’s fundraising activities. Meanwhile, J. Joe Ricketts, whose conservative Ending ...

Super PAC quarterly report sheds light on donors
Tuesday, October 16, 2012 - 09:32 Win McNamee/Getty Images Super PACs reported their donors and funds raised for the third quarter Monday. A new batch of super PAC donor information arrived at the Federal Election Commission Monday, and among the top contributors was the nonprofit Americans for Limited Government, profiled by the Daily Disclosure on Monday after the organization released a Web video implying that Vice President Joe Biden was on drugs during last week’s vice presidential debate. Americans for Limited Government gave 86 percent of the $1.7 million received by Now or Never PAC , which has spent most of its money opposing the candidacy of Democrat Tammy Duckworth. Duckworth is running for U.S. House in Illinois’ 8th District. Super PACs report donors to the FEC monthly or quarterly. Super PACs that file quarterly are generally less well-known. For example, Restore Our Future , which favors Mitt Romney, brought in $9.4 million in August alone. American Bridge ...

Crossroads GPS charges into House race
Wednesday, September 19, 2012 - 10:19 YouTube/Screenshot With this ad targeting Rep. Tim Bishop, D-N.Y., Crossroads GPS is now active at all levels of the national election. Crossroads GPS , a conservative nonprofit outside spending group, began a $2.3 million ad campaign Wednesday, including the Crossroads network’s first reported foray into congressional races and ads in four tightly contested Senate races. With its entry into the House race, Crossroads is now active at all levels of the national election. This campaign is part of a larger $10 million-plus offensive from Republican strategist Karl Rove’s Crossroads network that began this week. Super PAC American Crossroads just announced an $8.8 million campaign targeting President Barack Obama. Crossroads GPS’ ads target Senate races in Montana, Nevada, North Dakota and Wisconsin as well as New York’s 1st Congressional District, where Republicans are trying to oust Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop: “ Number One ” opposes ...

House Dems hit by super PAC/nonprofit team
Tuesday, September 18, 2012 - 10:01 YouTube/Screenshot Astronaut Jose Hernandez, the Democratic candidate for U.S. House in California's 10th District, was one of three candidates criticized in new ads from American Action Network. Conservative nonprofit American Action Network and its sister super PAC, the Congressional Leadership Fund, have launched a multi-million campaign targeting top congressional races. The groups, which were both founded by former GOP Sen. Norm Coleman and ex-Nixon aide Fred Malek, are spending more than $3 million on ads designed to aid Republicans, with $1.6 million of that coming from the American Action Network, according to a press release from the group. With just seven weeks until Election Day, the spending comes as part of an advertising barrage on down-ticket races, where groups can often get more bang for their buck. Conservative super PACs American Crossroads and YG Action Fund have also announced plans to target House races in hopes ...

Stock tips from Obama and Romney
Barack Obama and Mitt Romney dole out a lot of stock tips—just not in their stump speeches. Research shows that the stocks of the winning candidate’s biggest corporate donors tend to get a postelection boost.
